Renault Bridger To Arrive With New Turbo Petrol, Will Get EV Too

GaadiWaadi -

Renault Bridger Concept

Renault Bridger to be distinguished in the crowded sub-4 metre SUV segment with authentic proportions, a high ground clearance, and a butch design

Renault is rebooting its India operations with the recently launched third-generation Duster, and the upcoming Bridger will be an even more crucial product for the French brand. As a compact SUV, the Bridger will have far more potential in our market, which is why Renault has even more aggressive plans for that model.

At an India-specific futuREady conference held on 16 April, Renault shared some new details about the Bridger. One of the major developments was the confirmation of a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine.

The Tata Nexon, the best-selling model in the sub-4 metre SUV segment, and the Mahindra XUV 3XO are also available with 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engines. The Renault Bridger’s closest rival will be the production version of the Mahindra Vision.S, and that model is also expected to be offered with at least one 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine option.

Renault could be considering the HR12 1.2-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine, which it uses in a number of existing models internationally, including the Duster, Captur, Austral, and the Rafale. This engine is ready for electrification and is already being used in mild-hybrid, full-hybrid, and plug-in hybrid applications.

At the world premiere of the Bridger’s concept version last month, Renault confirmed that it will offer a hybrid powertrain as well. While it did not specifically state, there’s a strong possibility it is planning to offer this option in India, which would make the business case for the HR12 engine even stronger. The company will likely use a naturally aspirated version of the same engine in the basic configurations to keep the pricing competitive.

Renault plans to offer the Bridger with a pure electric powertrain also in India. The company had considered several EVs for our market earlier, but the Bridger EV will finally be its first pure electric model in India. No technical details about the zero-emission variant are available at the moment.

The Renault Bridger is scheduled to go on sale in India by the end of 2027, and we expect it to be offered with only the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated and turbocharged petrol engine options initially. The hybrid and pure electric variants could be introduced in a phased manner by 2028.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) showcased the Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella in January and is expected to launch it later this month. This is the company’s first EV, and it is closely related to the Maruti e Vitara.

Toyota-Urban-Cruiser-Ebella-.jpg

2. Tata Sierra.ev

As its name suggests, the Tata Sierra.ev will be a derivative of the all-new Tata Sierra. However, it will undergo some major structural changes in the process, like switching from a front-biased to a rear-biased drivetrain, for instance. Another major change will be the adoption of an independent rear suspension, although that will be seen on the ICE donor also in the future, with the arrival of an AWD option in 2027.

Tata Sierra EV

Tata Motors is likely to launch the Sierra.ev in standard-range RWD, extended-range RWD, and extended-range AWD variants. The extended-range RWD variant should be able to travel at least around 600 kilometres (MIDC Part 1 + Part 2) on a single charge.

3. Kia Syros EV

The Kia Syros EV will be the South Korean automaker’s Tata Nexon.ev challenger. An active air intake grille with automatically opening/closing shutters, more aerodynamic 16-inch alloy wheels, and a few tweaks to the bumpers are expected to be the key design changes on the electric derivative. The interior should look even more similar.

Kia Syros EV

Kia will likely offer the Syros EV with two LFP battery pack options, and the larger of the two may deliver around 500 kilometres of range. The LFP cells will be produced locally by Exide Energy to keep costs in check.

2026 Maruti Suzuki Baleno Facelift Spotted Testing – Changes Explained

GaadiWaadi -

2026 Maruti Suzuki Baleno Spied

2026 Maruti Suzuki Baleno is expected to receive exterior and interior changes while a new 1.2L Z-series petrol engine could be included

A mid-cycle update for the Maruti Suzuki Baleno has been caught testing in India revealing some of the changes it will endure upon likely arrival in H2 2026. Being the best-selling premium hatchback and one of top-selling passenger cars in the domestic market, the facelift holds plenty of significance for the brand as it has been around in its current guise since early 2022.

The spy images indicate that the 2026 Maruti Suzuki Baleno has gained a subtly reworked tail section but the bulk of the changes appear to be concentrated at the front. Besides a set of newly designed alloy wheels, the five-seater has received redesigned headlight section, updated grille, revised front bumper with wider air intake, etc. You could also see turn signals mounted on ORVMs and clamshell shaped bonnet.

The front end looks meaner courtesy of a parted grille with more prominent inserts and it may also get brand new LED Daytime Running Lights. The cabin could come with a larger touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, updated surface trims and materials, new in-car connectivity based functions, an all-digital instrument console and more.

The equipment could be further spiced up with the inclusion of a 360-degree camera system, wireless smartphone charger, leatherette seats, etc. Currently, the Baleno uses a 1.2L K-series DualJet petrol engine producing 89 hp maximum power and 113 Nm of peak torque. The Indo-Japanese manufacturer could replace it with the new Z-series three-pot unit found in the latest Swift and Dzire.

Higher trims could be powered by a 1.0L BoosterJet petrol mill found in the Fronx and it will help expand the Baleno’s portfolio. Another possibility is the addition of CNG tank underneath the floor as seen in the Victoris. The same setup will also be employed in the Brezza facelift which is also undergoing testing. A new six-speed MT was also spotted with the upcoming Brezza and whether it will make it to the Baleno facelift or not is yet unknown.
