GaadiWaadi -

BYD Sealion 6 Plug in hybrid (2)

The BYD Sealion 6 could be aimed at a new segment of customers not yet ready to fully commit to an EV

The BYD Sealion 6 was spotted on test in India for the first time in February 2025, but a year later, there’s still no confirmation of launch. However, road testing is still underway, a new spy shot has revealed.

Originally introduced as the BYD Song Plus, the BYD Sealion 6 is part of the brand’s Ocean series. Although it was discontinued in China in January, it continues to be sold in international markets, including European countries, where it is marketed as the BYD Seal U.

At 4,775 mm long, 1,890 mm wide, and 1,670 mm tall, the BYD Sealion 6 is a mid-size SUV slotted below the BYD Sealion 07 electric SUV, which is sold in India. BYD offers the Sealion 6 in other markets in a basic petrol variant and multiple petrol-electric plug-in hybrid variants, and it has been testing one of the latter in our market.

JSW MG Motor and Toyota Kirloskar Motor are reportedly planning new plug-in hybrid cars for India, and the Sealion 6 could be BYD’s first attempt at this emerging category, if launched. In Australia, the company offers four plug-in hybrid variants, including two with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and a front-mounted electric motor, and two with a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine and two electric motors, including a higher-output unit at the front and a lower-output unit at the rear.

Packing up to 339 hp, the BYD Sealion 6 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h as quickly as 5.5 seconds. BYD offers 18.3 kWh and 26.6 kWh LFP battery packs and claims the latter can deliver a range of up to 140 kilometres (SoC 20-100%), as per NEDC. The plug-in hybrid variants support DC charging at up to 18 kW and also vehicle-to-load (V2L) bi-directional charging.

2026 Honda City Facelift Fully Revealed Ahead of May 22 Launch

GaadiWaadi -

2026 Honda City Facelift

Honda shows serious commitment to the mid-size sedan segment and the Indian market with a comprehensive second refresh for the fifth-gen City

The fifth-generation Honda City is getting a second facelift on 22 May. Just days ahead of the launch, the updated version’s test drive units have started arriving at dealerships, new spy shots have revealed.

The latest spy images have fully exposed the exterior and interior of the 2026 Honda City, revealing more substantial design changes than those introduced with the first one in 2023. Following the second facelift, the exterior looks a whole lot different from the original fifth-gen model, first seen in 2019.

The new Honda City has a sleeker and sportier front-end, with hints of global models like the India-bound Honda Prologue and the Honda Accord. Honda has fully redesigned not just the headlamps, grilles, and bumpers, but also the hood, which indicates the company has taken a serious effort in this refresh beyond the norm.

The headlamps are slimmer and look more aggressive. They feature new, split daytime running lights positioned on the top. In line with the industry trend, Honda has introduced a light band between the headlamps, positioned at the same height as the daytime running lights of the latter.

The brand logo lies ahead of the leading edge of the hood instead of on the radiator grille, which is a new black panel featuring honeycomb-shaped openings. The front bumper and lower air intake also have a new design, while front fog lamps have been omitted. On the sides, the 2026 Honda City features new 16-inch alloy wheels in a sporty design similar to the 17-inch alloy wheels Volkswagen offered on the pre-facelift Taigun 1.0 TSI. At the rear, the combination lamps carry over the old design, but in a new, transparent housing for a sportier styling.

2026 Honda City Facelift (2)

A new bumper with a split A-shaped grille-like cutout features a honeycomb-shaped pattern, mimicking the styling at the front. Honda has replaced the horizontal light reflectors with vertical ones and positioned them along the edges of the bumper.

The interior design of the new Honda City is largely the same. The centre console has been revised, with the cupholders now positioned ahead of the gear selector, where the outgoing model has the wireless charging pad. Honda has introduced new front seats with three-stage ventilation and a new floating touchscreen infotainment system. The latter has an aftermarket-like appearance due to its noticeable protruding placement outside the dashboard, and its steep upward tilt could impact visibility because of light reflections.

Unlike the outgoing model, the new one has a 360º camera system, which should make parking much easier and safer. There won’t be any changes to the 1.5-litre petrol engine, offered with 6-speed MT and CVT options. The same goes for the hybrid variant, also based on a 1.5-litre petrol engine.

Toyota Starlet Gets 0-Star Global NCAP Rating

Toyota Starlet Crash Test

The India-manufactured Toyota Starlet has received a zero-star safety rating in recent crash tests conducted by Global NCAP, raising concerns around occupant protection in its current form.

According to the test results, the hatchback scored 0 out of 34 points in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), indicating limited safety performance for front passengers. In contrast, the car achieved 29.33 out of 49 points in Child Occupant Protection (COP), translating to a three-star rating in this category.

The tested variant comes equipped with two airbags and electronic stability control (ESC) as standard. However, Global NCAP noted that the vehicle’s bodyshell integrity was rated as unstable, which can affect crash performance under higher impact conditions.

The Starlet is produced in India at Maruti Suzuki’s Gujarat facility and exported primarily to African markets, where it enjoys strong sales, including in fleet segments. The agency highlighted that widespread accessibility in such markets can increase exposure to road accidents, making safety performance a critical factor.

Toyota has reportedly informed Global NCAP about a forthcoming update to the Starlet, which is expected to introduce additional safety features, including more airbags. The updated version will likely undergo fresh evaluation once it is available in international markets.

For context, the Maruti Baleno — closely related to the Starlet — has shown varying safety outcomes across different assessment programs. While it secured a four-star rating under Bharat NCAP, it received a lower rating in Latin NCAP tests.

Global NCAP has stated that it will reassess the Starlet after the updated model is introduced.

3 New Maruti Suzuki Cars Spied Testing In A Convoy – What Are They?

GaadiWaadi -

Maruti Suzuki YMC, Brezza Facelift, Baleno Facelift Spied

Maruti Suzuki is preparing to launch 3 new cars in India and they have now been spotted testing simultaneously

Three camouflaged Maruti Suzuki test mules have been caught together on a convoy run on Indian roads giving a rare glimpse at what the brand has in development simultaneously. The prototypes are wrapped in the typical stripe camouflage used during late stage testing and based on the proportions and silhouettes visible through the coverings, the three vehicles appear to be the Brezza facelift, the Baleno facelift and the YMC electric MPV.

1. Maruti Suzuki Brezza Facelift:

The most easily identifiable of the three is the Brezza facelift. The proportions are consistent with the current model – the same compact SUV footprint, five door layout and raised ride height are all visible. The rear section shows a slightly redesigned tail lamp cluster with what appears to be a connected light bar treatment while the alloy wheel design differs from the outgoing model.

It will get a thoroughly revised interior with larger touchscreen while a six-speed MT and underfloor mounted CNG tank will be other key updates.

2. Updated Maruti Suzuki Baleno:

The second prototype in the convoy looks to be the updated Baleno. The hatchback proportions are clearly visible through the camouflage with a lower, wider front end compared to the Brezza and a more sloped roofline. The rear end shows updated tail lamp positioning and bumper treatment. The Baleno facelift is expected to bring exterior styling revisions alongside interior upgrades including a larger touchscreen and improved connected features.

3. Maruti Suzuki YMC:

The third and most interesting prototype is the YMC – Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming seven seat electric MPV. The overall stance is noticeably taller and longer than the other two vehicles with a more upright greenhouse, pronounced rear overhang, a closed off front grille area and light bars at the front and back along with a boxy tailgate. The side profile reveals significant glass area across all three rows and a squared off rear section along with alloy wheels similar to the e Vitara.

Expected to share components with the e Vitara and measure around 4.5 metres in length, the YMC will be positioned as a practical family electric MPV competing with the likes of Kia Carens Clavis EV. The presence of all three prototypes on the same convoy run suggests that they are likely heading toward a series of launches spread across the remainder of 2026 and into early 2027.

Here is a brief look at the 6 upcoming Tata cars that are expected to launch in India over the next 12 months

At least six new launches are expected to be lined up for FY2026-27 across electric and conventional powertrains and here we have brought you a rundown:

1. Tata Sierra EV

The most immediate arrival is the Sierra EV which is confirmed by Tata Motors’ MD and CEO Shailesh Chandra for launch within the current quarter. Built on the Acti.ev+ platform and sharing underpinnings with the Harrier EV, it will slot above the Curvv EV in the lineup. Two battery options are expected – a 55 kWh pack and a larger 65 kWh unit with the bigger battery likely to return a real world range of over 500 km.

Single motor rear wheel drive and dual motor all wheel drive configurations are both expected along with fast charging, V2L and bidirectional charging support.
