Fifth-gen BMW X5 gets petrol, diesel, plug-in hybrid, battery-electric and hydrogen powertrain choices along with Neue Klasse tech

BMW has revealed the fifth generation X5 and the SUV becomes the brand’s first model to offer five powertrain choices from the brand. The range encompasses petrol, diesel, plug-in hybrid, battery-electric and hydrogen fuel-cell versions heralding the biggest technical expansion yet for the X5 nameplate in its lifespan spanning nearly three decades.

The all-electric version will be sold as the BMW iX5. It gets sixth generation eDrive technology, 800V architecture, cylindrical battery cells and bidirectional charging. BMW claims a driving range of up to 845 km for the iX5 60 xDrive. The hydrogen version will arrive later as the BMW iX5 Hydrogen and it boasts a third-gen fuel-cell system, hydrogen storage hardware and a high voltage battery.

BMW says the prototype stage range target stands at up to 750 km but the final WLTP figures are not available yet. Petrol and diesel versions will continue with 48V mild-hybrid tech while plug-in hybrid variants will also be part of the portfolio. BMW has not released the full engine-wise output list yet but the X5 40 xDrive, X5 40d xDrive, X5 50e xDrive and X5 M60e xDrive names have been confirmed.

2026-new-bmw-x5.png

The exterior follows BMW’s latest Neue Klasse theme with an upright front end, glowing vertical kidney grille and new double-X light signatures. The side profile gets recessed winglet door handles and wheel sizes will go up to 23 inches. Eleven exterior colours will be available globally. The overall design sticks by the brand’s modern standards without a shadow of a doubt.

On the inside, the 2027 BMW X5 gets BMW Panoramic iDrive running on Operating System X. The setup includes Panoramic Vision across the windscreen, a free-cut central display, 3D head-up display, optional passenger screen and a redesigned multifunction steering wheel. BMW will also offer slate as an optional cabin trim surface.

2026-new-bmw-x5-interior.png

The luxury SUV also gains adaptive suspension as standard and near 50:50 axle load distribution. Adaptive Chassis Control and Adaptive Chassis Control Professional with roll stabilisation will be offered on selected variants including electric and plug-in hybrid models. Its series production will begin at BMW Group Plant Spartanburg in August 2026.

It has been confirmed that the market launch for the first variants is scheduled for late November 2026 while the all-electric and plug-in hybrid versions will follow in early 2027. We do expect it to arrive in India in the early parts of next year.

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles sees strong demand especially for EVs, in June 2026, with sales volume up 183% year-on-year

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (TMPV) has announced it sold 63,083 cars in the month of June this year. The company saw a 69% year-on-year growth in sales last month (June 2025: 37,237 units). Unlike Maruti Suzuki, TMPV does not export in big volumes. Of the 63,083 total cars sold, 62,076 were shipped in the domestic market, and only 1,007 units were exported.

However, while the overall volume is low, performance has improved significantly over the last year. In June 2025, the company exported only 154 cars, which means its overseas shipments were up 554% last month. TMPV has also released its sales figures for the first quarter of FY2026. The company sold 1,80,166 cars in Q1 FY2027 in the domestic market, which, compared to Q1 FY2026 (123,839 units), marked a 45% growth.

Its exports saw a 148% year-on-year growth during this period, going up from 970 units to 2,408 units. In total, the company registered 1,82,574 units in Q1 FY 2027 sales, with a solid 46% year-on-year growth (Q1 FY2026: 1,24,809 units).

TMPV gave the Tata Tiago and Tata Punch, as well as their electric variants, a facelift in the first half of the year. The company says the new Tata Tiago and new Tata Punch have received an overwhelming response across powertrain types. The all-new Tata Sierra’s volumes were impacted by supply constraints in Q1 FY2027, but customer interest and bookings are strong. TMPV is working with its vendors to correct the situation and will ramp up deliveries this quarter.

EVs are particularly in high demand at TMPV. The company says it recorded its highest-ever monthly sales of 14,800 EVs in June 2026, up 183% year-on-year (June 2025: 5,228 units). These figures include both domestic sales and exports. Q1 FY2027 EV sales volume, including exports, stood at 34,467 units, marking a 112% year-on-year growth (Q1 FY2026: 16,231 units).

Hyundai Sales Drop To 39,635 Units In June 2026 As Supplier Fire Impacts Production

GaadiWaadi -

2026 hyundai verna

Hyundai says production has returned to normal after a temporary disruption caused a loss of nearly 13,900 units in June 2026

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has reported domestic sales of 39,635 units in June 2026 while exports stood at 11,700 units. Combined sales have reached 51,335 units during the month as the company attributed the lower production volume to a fire at one of its supplier’s manufacturing facilities which temporarily affected vehicle production.

According to Hyundai, the incident resulted in a production loss of around 13,900 units last month. The Korean company responded by sourcing automotive components from alternate locations while working to restore normal manufacturing operations across its plants. Production has now returned to normal with Hyundai confirming that all manufacturing facilities resumed regular operations from June 22, 2026.

The automaker also expects the production shortfall recorded in June to be recovered during the second quarter of FY2026-27. Despite the disruption, Hyundai shipped 11,700 vehicles to overseas markets during the month – taking total monthly sales to 51,335 units. The export volumes stayed put contributing significantly to the brand’s overall sales performance alongside domestic dispatches.

The sales figures in June 2026 come after Hyundai had already informed stock exchanges earlier about the supplier-related disruption. The company reiterated that necessary corrective measures had been implemented to minimise the impact on production and ensure a stable supply of components going forward. Hyundai did not indicate any changes to its product rollout plans following the incident.

The company boasts an expansive SUV portfolio with models such as the Exter, Venue, Creta, Alcazar, Tucson and Ioniq 5. It is currently developed a heavily localised electric vehicle for India which could share mechanicals with the Creta Electric while a brand new SUV positioned above the Venue taking inspiration from the global Bayon is also in the works.

The next generation Creta with major exterior and interior overall alongside the possible inclusion of a full hybrid system could arrive sometime next year. With manufacturing now back to normal and alternative sourcing arrangements in place, Hyundai expects to regain the lost production over the coming months. The recovery is expected to make an impact in dispatch volumes during the remainder of the current quarter.

Its market share increased from 7.1 per cent to 11.2 per cent during the same period. Ola Electric moved in the opposite direction on a year-on-year basis. The company registered 15,096 units in June 2026 against 20,697 units sold during the corresponding period twelve months ago. Its market share declined from 18.6 per cent to 8.3 per cent.

The brand had fallen to 6 per cent share in January 2026 before recovering to 8.8 per cent in May and 8.3 per cent in June. Greaves Electric’s Ampere brand crossed 10,000 unit sales in June – placing it sixth among the leading electric two-wheeler names. River Mobility and BGauss also posted healthy numbers while the rest of the market remained spread across smaller EV manufacturers.

TVS, Bajaj and Ather are indeed the main volume pillars of the zero-emission two-wheeler market as we have seen in recent memory but Vida’s growth has changed the middle order. Ola still has scale but its share is far lower than the same month last year. The next few months will show whether Ampere, River and BGauss can keep increasing volumes as the segment moves into the festivities.
