Hyundai Creta will face stiff competition in the coming months from various new midsize SUVs from Maruti, Tata and Renault among others
Hyundai Creta has been ruling the roost in the midsize SUV segment in the Indian market for the last few years. In Apr 2025 sales, it emerged as the best-selling four-wheeler in the passenger vehicle space in the domestic market. However, things could change in future as various leading automakers such as Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, Renault and Nissan are planning to launch their midsize SUV models to challenge the dominance of the Creta. In this piece, we will talk in detail about the 4 upcoming Midsize SUVs in India.
1. New Maruti Midsize SUV
Maruti is readying an all-new 5-seater SUV for India which could be christened as ‘Escudo’. We exclusively told you about this Midsize SUV last month when it was captured on camera during its test runs around Gurgaon. The new Maruti midsize SUV will be positioned between the Brezza and Grand Vitara while retailed via the regular Arena showrooms.

The new midsize SUV from Maruti is likely to hit the roads during the Diwali festive season later this year. Underpinning the Global-C architecture as the Grand Vitara, it will be offered with a naturally-aspirated 1.5L petrol engine with power output of 103 bhp. In addition, it will also be available with the petrol strong hybrid powertrain setup which churns out 114 bhp. Maruti is also expected to roll out a CNG variant of the SUV.

2. Tata Sierra

Tata Sierra is making a comeback after more than two decades in the Indian market. Unveiled in a pre-production form at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo, it will be equipped with petrol and diesel engines, sourced from the brand’s other SUV models such as the Harrier and Safari. It has been learnt that Sierra EV is also under development and could be launched by the end of 2025 in India. The ICE-powered Sierra will debut during the festive season (Oct-Nov) 2025.
3. New-Gen Renault Duster

Renault Duster is also making a highly anticipated return to the Indian roads after almost five years. It was recently introduced in South Africa and now an official launch in our country is expected by the end of 2025. It is likely to be powered by 1.0L turbo petrol and 1.3L turbo petrol engines. The interesting thing here is that Renault will introduce strong hybrid technology with the new-gen Duster in India. Sadly, there will not be diesel variants on offer.

Recently, the duo was teased through a small video which gave glimpses of its rugged styling inspired by the Patrol SUV. Based on the new-gen Renault Duster’s platform, it is expected to go on sale post the launch of the MPV which is scheduled during the festive season in Oct-Nov 2025. The engines will be shared with the Duster.
