The Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos have been dominating the midsize SUV segment in India ever since their market arrival. Considering the raising competition and product lifcycles, both SUVs are set for a generational shift with significant design, features and mechanical upgrades including the hybrid powertrain.
The official launch timelines of both SUVs are yet to be revealed. However, the second-generation Kia Seltos is expected to arrive in 2026, while the third-gen Hyundai Creta will go on sale in 2027. Let’s take a look at the key details of these upcoming SUVs.
New-Gen Kia Seltos
The next-generation Seltos is expected to make global debut in late 2025, followed by its India launch in 2026. The carmaker might introduce the SUV with a 1.5L, 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine, paired with a strong hybrid system. This same powertrain will be used in Kia’s upcoming three-row SUV, which will rival the Mahindra XUV700, Tata Safari and Hyundai Alcazar.
The existing 1.5L turbo petrol and diesel engines will also be carried forward to the new lineup. The 2026 Kia Seltos is likely to feature an all-new design language, inspired by Kia’s new-gen global electric SUVs. Major changes will also be made inside the cabin.
New-Gen Hyundai Creta
The third-gen Hyundai Creta (codenamed SX3) is likely to be offered with a strong hybrid powertrain, comprising a 1.5L petrol engine, an electric motor and a hybrid setup. Upgrading diesel engines to comply with the upcoming BS7 emission standard could be a cost affair, so Hyundai might position hybrid as an alternative. The 2027 Hyundai Creta is expected to come with significantly improved styling and a more premium interior. The carmaker will also update the Creta Electric in 2027. Currently, the electric version of the SUV is available in five trims, with prices starting from Rs 17.99 lakh onwards.
