Kia has confirmed the strong hybrid powertrain for the next-gen Seltos; global debut of the new mid-size SUV likely by the end of 2025
Kia forayed into the Indian market with the launch of the Seltos back in the year 2019. The mid-size SUV was the brand’s first model in the country. It received a major facelift in 2023, with an updated exterior design, refreshed interiors and new feature additions. The Korean carmaker is now working on the development of the next-gen Seltos, which is currently in the testing phase.
The new model is expected to debut globally by the end of 2025, followed by its launch in the Indian market in the near future. The recently leaked spy shots of the new Kia Seltos highlight a completely new design language. It will be inspired by the brand’s latest ‘Opposite United’ design philosophy, which we have already seen in the EV9 and Syros.
The updated SUV will get a vertical LED DRL setup, placed on the extreme edges of the bumper and a three-pod headlight setup can also be seen in the spy images. The lower part of the bumper seems familiar, however, it will get a new set of fog lamps. Towards the rear, new LED tail lamps with connected treatment will be a part of the package.

Dimensionally, the new Seltos will likely remain more or less the same. It will also get a new set of alloy wheels, with the top-spec model retaining the 18-inch wheel size. While the interiors of the second-gen SUV are under wraps, we expect it to get a major upgrade over the current model. Kia could likely use more premium material inside the cabin, with an updated dashboard layout and advanced driver’s instrument cluster as well as a new infotainment system. The current Seltos is already loaded to the brim with features and it will be interesting to see what the upcoming next-gen model brings to the table.
The biggest upgrade to the new-gen Seltos will be in the powertrain department. Kia has confirmed that a strong hybrid engine option will be part of the line-up, however, it will likely be added later. The familiar 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine will be paired with the strong hybrid setup and it will be shared with the brand’s upcoming 3-row SUV in India.

In addition to this, the current gasoline engines i.e. 1.5-litre NA petrol and 1.5 tGDi petrol will likely continue as it is. Kia will also retain the 1.5 litre CRDi diesel engine, with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox options.
