In the month of April 2025, the top sedans sales table saw Maruti Suzuki Dzire staying put as the unassailable leader ahead of its main rivals Aura and Amaze

Sedans may no longer be the mainstream choice but a handful of models are still managing to hold their own. The sales chart for April 2025 shows just how uneven the terrain has become. While a few compact offerings continue to attract decent demand, several midsize and premium nameplates have struggled to keep pace.

Topping the list once again, the Maruti Dzire proved its staying power, racking up 16,996 units last month – an improvement of 7 per cent over the 15,825 units it managed during the same period in 2024 as the arrival of the new generation has indeed helped a lot. Despite growing SUV competition, the Dzire continues to enjoy consistent demand in the private and taxi market .

The Hyundai Aura followed, though its numbers weren’t quite as promising. It slipped 7 per cent year-on-year, closing April 2025 at 4,224 units, compared to 4,526 the year before. While still second overall, the Aura appears to be losing some momentum. The third place went to the Honda Amaze which recorded a 12 per cent year-on-year rise.

From 1,796 units in April 2024, the compact sedan improved to 2,019 units this time around. Not a headline-grabber but a solid result nonetheless and it must be also noted that the Amaze gained a brand new avatar only a few months ago. The Volkswagen Virtus put up one of the strongest growth figures on the list, jumping 36 per cent year-on-year.

It moved 1,605 units in April 2025, up from 1,183 in the same month last year – thanks in part to better feature packaging and growing brand presence. Tata Motors’ Tigor went the opposite way. Sales crashed from 2,153 units in April 2024 to just 1,296 last month, a steep drop of 40 per cent. Without any major updates, it appears interest is tapering off.

The Hyundai Verna fell by 36 per cent, sliding from 1,571 units to 1,005. The midsize sedans like the Verna are increasingly being squeezed by SUVs on both price and feature fronts. Skoda’s Slavia saw a 16 per cent dip year-on-year, moving 1,048 units versus 1,253 units during the corresponding period twelve months ago.

Further down, the City saw its numbers cut nearly in half as Honda dispatched just 406 units compared to 824 a year earlier – a 51 per cent fall that puts it near the bottom of the rankings. Maruti’s Ciaz performed even worse, managing only 321 units. At the very end of the list, the Toyota Camry garnered 208 units last month.
