TVS will become the second brand after Bajaj to foray into the CNG two-wheeler segment in India; The CNG scooter will get a 1.4 kg tank

TVS Motor Company is ready to launch its first CNG two-wheeler in the Indian market. It will become the second company to enter the CNG segment, following Bajaj’s lead, which currently sells the Freedom 125 CNG motorcycle. While TVS will expand its electric two-wheeler line-up, its debutant CNG model will be none other than the Jupiter CNG, which was showcased at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Expo.

Expected to launch in India in the second half of 2025, the TVS Jupiter CNG will become the world’s first CNG scooter. Talking about the design, the CNG scooter will appear quite similar to the regular Jupiter 125, albeit with some minor changes and the prominent CNG badging.

The CNG cylinder is placed under the seat, which leaves it with no under-seat storage. For reference, the petrol-powered Jupiter 125 has a 33-litre boot carrying capacity. Coming to the specs, the CNG cylinder will come with a capacity of 1.4 kg (9.5 litres), and it is supplied by Vanaz, the same company that makes the CNG cylinder for Bajaj Freedom 125.

The petrol tank is placed on the floorboard with a capacity of 2 litres. The Jupiter CNG will be powered by the familiar 124.8cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine, putting out 7.2 hp and 9.4 Nm of peak torque. These numbers have taken a hit as the petrol-only Jupiter 125’s power output is rated at 8.1 bhp and 10.5 Nm of peak torque.

According to TVS, the CNG scooter can achieve a top speed of 80.5 kmph. The highlight of the Jupiter CNG will be its extremely frugal running cost, as it claims to deliver an efficiency of 84 km/kg. The total range of the CNG scooter will be 226 kilometres, factoring in both CNG and petrol.
