Maruti Suzuki recorded 1,35,962 units in May 2025 as against 1,44,002 units with a YoY sales decline of 6 per cent in India

Maruti Suzuki ended the month of May 2025 clocking 1,35,962 units domestically – slipping 6 per cent from where it stood a year ago. Compared to April, the month-on-month change wasn’t as severe but still pointed downward at 2 per cent. Sitting at the top of the pile was the Dzire. At 18,084 units, it wasn’t just the company’s highest-selling model for May but posted a 13 per cent gain over last year as well.

The compact sedan continued a positive climb with a 6 per cent lift over April. It was followed closely by the Ertiga, which improved both on year by 16 per cent and on monthly 2 per cent, ending May at 16,140 units. The Brezza posted its own high, pushing past 15,500 units and recording a 10 per cent year-on-year increase.

However, it had dropped 8 per cent compared to April. The Swift, once a default volume driver, took a noticeable tumble – falling 27 per cent against May 2024 to 14,135 units and trailing April by 3 per cent. The Wagon R and Fronx continued neck-and-neck, both hovering in the 13,000s. The former saw a 4 per cent decline year-on-year but managed to claw back 4 per cent from April’s figures.

The Grand Vitara dropped to just 5,197 units – almost halving compared to last year’s 9,736. Even from April, it shed 27 per cent. The Alto’s decline was similarly sharp, dropping 35 per cent year-on-year to finish below 5,000 units and falling 11 per cent versus April. The budget hatchbacks, meanwhile, looked far more unstable. The Celerio lost 44 per cent over last May and was down to 1,861 units while Ignis also continued its downward slope, falling 12 per cent year-on-year and 4 per cent over April. Despite small volumes, the S-Presso saw a 149 per cent rise both on year and on month, bouncing from just 726 units in April to 1,806 in May.

The Jimny also reported a massive 149 per cent year-on-year jump but given it was introduced not too long ago, the base figure from last year was just 274 units. At 682 units, May still marked a 58 per cent gain over April. At the very bottom, Ciaz and Invicto brought in 458 and 223 units respectively. While both numbers are modest, Ciaz gained 43 per cent month-on-month and Invicto by 16 per cent year-on-year.
