Hyundai Creta has been the unassailable leader in the midsize SUV segment for over a decade in India
The Hyundai Creta has hit a landmark moment in India – clocking its best-ever calendar year performance with 2 lakh units sold in a single year. The numbers associate to 550 Cretas finding new homes every single day in the domestic market showing just how deeply entrenched the SUV is in the country’s buying psyche. Even after ten years on sale and relentless competition, the Creta continues to dictate terms in the midsize SUV space.
What makes this achievement more telling is the environment it has come in. The midsize SUV segment is now crowded with newer and feature-packed rivals yet the Creta has managed not just to hold ground but extend its lead at the top. With a segment share of over 34 per cent, it comfortably leaves the rest of the field in its wake.
The year also indicates a decade since the Creta first went on sale in India – a journey during which the nameplate has grown consistently. Between 2016 and 2025, the brand has recorded a compound annual growth rate of more than 9 per cent – an uncommon feat in a segment known for rapid changes in buyer expectations.

Since its debut, the Creta has finished as the highest-selling midsize SUV in every completed year – making it less of a product success and more of a category-defining phenomenon. A major reason behind this sustained appeal is the sheer breadth of choice the Creta offers. Buyers can pick from multiple powertrains and gearboxes including a 1.5-litre MPi petrol, 1.5-litre CRDi diesel and a 1.5-litre turbo petrol mill.
It is coupled with manual, automatic, IVT or DCT options depending on the variant. Earlier this year, the Creta’s range saw further expansion with the inclusion of the electric variant.
