Hyundai is expected to bring in as many as three new hybrid SUVs over the next 2-3 years in India including the next-gen Creta

The future product strategy of Hyundai for India is taking a turn toward hybridisation with multiple SUV launches being lined up over the next few years. Instead of relying solely on electric vehicles, the Korean brand is developing strong hybrid powertrains that will underpin a new generation of SUVs that will help balance fuel economy, performance and regulatory compliance in a rapidly evolving market.

At the top end of this plan sits a possible flagship hybrid SUV. Hyundai is still evaluating the global Palisade Hybrid for India which would become the most premium SUV in the brand’s local lineup. Internationally, the model combines a turbocharged 2.5-litre petrol engine with an electric motor to deliver a combined output of 334 hp and 460 Nm.

If approved, this large hybrid SUV could make its way to India closer to 2028. Before its arrival, Hyundai’s focus will remain firmly on the midsize SUV segment. The next generation Creta, internally codenamed SX3, is already under active development and will move to a completely new platform. Hyundai is expected to introduce a new design language along with subtle dimensional tweaks and an all-new cabin layout to keep the Creta competitive in an increasingly crowded segment.

Powertrain options for the upcoming Creta are likely to carry forward the existing 1.5-litre NA petrol, turbo petrol and diesel engines. The headline change, however, will be the debut of a strong hybrid system likely paired with the naturally aspirated 1.5-litre petrol unit. It could deliver significantly improved fuel efficiency.

Hyundai’s new approach also hints at a phased electrification phase. Although the Creta EV is already on sale, the electric facelift is expected only after the new ICE and hybrid versions of the Creta are launched. Current timelines suggest this transition could stretch into 2027. Adding to its hybrid arsenal is a new three-row SUV, known internally as Ni1i.

Positioned between the Alcazar and the now-discontinued Tucson, the upcoming C-SUV is expected to cater to consumers seeking more space and a more premium feel than the Alcazar. It is also likely to use a hybrid-spec 1.5-litre four-pot petrol engine and could debut around the same time as the next-gen Creta.
