Mahindra & Mahindra’s product portfolio is increasingly being influenced by electrification. The battery electric vehicles will play a central role in reducing fossil fuel dependence – even though four-wheeler EV adoption in India is progressing at a gradual pace. In the interim, alternative fuel solutions such as CNG and hybrid technologies are expected to complement the transition.

Against this backdrop, the XUV 7XO has emerged as a notable performer in the domestic market. The SUV has recorded a notable skew toward higher variants with more than 70 per cent of total bookings concentrated on the top trims. The range-topping X7L, in particular, has seen heightened interest, resulting in longer waiting periods.

The demand pattern has compelled the company to reassess production allocation in order to better match customer needs. Consumers are increasingly prioritising advanced safety systems, technology-rich cabins and premium finishes in recent past. Although the lower trims remain competitively priced, a majority of buyers are choosing fully loaded configurations.

The development of the Mahindra XUV 7XO traces back several years when it was engineered alongside other key SUV projects within Mahindra’s portfolio. Teams worked extensively on offering multiple engine and transmission combinations – comprising petrol and diesel options with manual and automatic gearboxes.

Usability improvements formed a major focus area which includes a significant reduction in clutch effort to enhance everyday drivability. The SUV underwent numerous iterations to perfect tactile elements such as door closing feel while structural rigidity and crash performance were strengthened through advanced simulations and validation processes.

The XUV 7XO incorporates newly developed damping technology which looks to reduce vibrations and increase cabin isolation. Mahindra has prioritised proprietary solutions including suspension tuning tailored specifically for Indian road conditions. The multilink rear suspension further supports high-speed stability.

The SUV is a progressive update rather than a radical departure when compared to its predecessor, the XUV700. The most significant transformation is inside the cabin where the SUV receives a thoroughly reworked interior featuring a new dashboard design and a standard three-screen arrangement. It continues to use a 2.0-litre turbo petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines, mated to six-speed manual as well as automatic gearbox options.
