3 new hybrid cars to be launched in the coming months, all expected to deliver a fuel economy of around 20 km/l or higher
Following the new Honda City Hybrid in May, three more hybrid cars are planned to be launched in India later this year. While the first model was a sedan, the next three will all be SUVs.
1. Honda ZR-V Hybrid
The Honda ZR-V is the Japanese automaker’s new SUV slotted between the HR-V and CR-V globally. It is available in petrol and petrol-electric hybrid variants, but only the latter is headed to our market. Honda plans to launch the ZR-V Hybrid and start its deliveries in India later this month.

The ZR-V Hybrid measures 4,567 mm in length, 1,840 mm in width, and 1,621 mm in height and has a 2,655 mm wheelbase. It has a 181 hp powertrain that combines a 2.0-litre petrol engine and an electric motor. This setup delivers a fuel economy of 22.8 km/l. Honda is importing the ZR-V Hybrid as a CBU from Japan, which means the pricing will be steep, possibly around Rs. 45 lakh (ex-showroom).

2. Kia Sorento Hybrid
The Kia Sorento likely to be launched around October. It will be the first model in the Skoda Kodiaq segment to be offered with a hybrid powertrain. While earlier reports said that the Kia Sorento Hybrid will be manufactured in India, recent reports suggest it will only be assembled locally, from knocked-down kits imported from South Korea. The D-segment SUV measures 4,815 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width, and 1,695 mm in height and has a 2,815 mm wheelbase. Kia will likely offer it in six- and seven-seat versions.

A 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine and an electric motor power the Sorento Hybrid. This combination gives 236 hp and 380 Nm of torque. Kia offers a mechanical AWD system as an option internationally, but it’s unclear whether that is planned for India as well. In Europe, the Sorento Hybrid is claimed to deliver a fuel economy of 15.15 km/l (FWD)/14.29 km/l (AWD), as per WLTP. The ARAI-rated fuel economy will likely be around 20 km/l (FWD), though.

3. Renault Duster Hybrid
The Renault Duster Hybrid will be launched in India at the end of October or the beginning of November. Renault opened pre-bookings earlier this year and said that the planned production volume for 2026 is already sold out. It will reopen bookings ahead of the commencement of deliveries of the first batch around Diwali.

The Duster Hybrid uses a combination of a 1.8-litre petrol engine and an electric motor. The latter relies on a 1.4 kWh battery and handles nearly 80% of city driving. The Duster Hybrid should deliver a fuel economy of close to 25 km/l.
