Hyundai is preparing a wider product offensive with new SUVs, a mass-market EV and more adventurous models for the Indian market

Hyundai’s upcoming product pipeline is beginning to look considerably more interesting. Well, it ought to be as Hyundai India has had a quiet few months as far as new launches are concerned. The company has already confirmed two new SUV nameplates for FY2026-27, while a new-generation Creta, a compact EV and larger SUVs are also being planned. Some of these products are confirmed, while others remain at the speculation stage. Here’s what to expect from five of the more interesting Hyundai models heading our way.

1. Hyundai Bayon

The Hyundai Bayon-based SUV is arguably the most immediate launch on this list. Codenamed Bc4i, it has already been spotted testing in India and is expected to sit alongside the Creta rather than below the Venue as was originally thought. The SUV is expected to measure around 4.18 metres, giving Hyundai a second midsize SUV and putting it directly against products such as the Maruti Victoris and Grand Vitara. It is expected to get a naturally aspirated petrol engine, while CNG and diesel are also being considered.

2. Next-Generation Hyundai Creta

The third-generation Creta, internally codenamed SX3, is expected in India in 2027 and will reportedly bring a much more significant overhaul than a conventional facelift. The SUV is expected to grow in size and get a more modern design, upgraded interiors and additional safety and technology. Something we saw with the Kia Seltos as well. Hyundai is also working on the possibility of a strong-hybrid powertrain, potentially making the next Creta its first hybrid model. The existing 1.5-litre petrol, turbo-petrol and diesel engines are also expected to continue, although the final combination remains unconfirmed.

3. Hyundai Compact EV

Hyundai’s next major step into the mass-market EV space will be a compact electric SUV, expected to be based on the global Inster and internally known as HE1i. It is expected to be built locally in India and will take on the likes of the Tata Punch EV. The global Inster uses 42 kWh and 49 kWh battery packs, with WLTP ranges of around 300 km and 355 km, respectively, although the India-spec model is expected to be substantially localised. Hyundai has confirmed that a localised compact EV is part of its India strategy, with launch timing expected around the 2026-27 period.

4. Hyundai Boulder

Hyundai could also enter the hardcore off-road SUV space with the Boulder. Previewed as a rugged concept, the Boulder features a boxy silhouette, high ground clearance and a much more aggressive design than Hyundai’s current SUV range. The production version is still some distance away, with current estimates pointing towards 2028, and there is very little confirmed information on its powertrain or India-spec hardware. The important bit is that Hyundai appears to be exploring a genuine off-road product rather than simply another urban SUV with plastic cladding.

5. Hyundai Ni1i: New 7-Seater SUV

The fifth model is the Ni1i, Hyundai’s proposed three-row SUV that is expected to sit above the Alcazar and take on the likes of the Mahindra XUV 7XO and Tata Safari. The project has been discussed for some time and was initially expected to arrive around 2027, potentially with a strong-hybrid powertrain shared with the next Creta. However, the project appears to have gone relatively quiet, and Hyundai’s latest comments suggest it is unlikely to arrive before late 2027 or later. In other words, this one is still very much a wait-and-watch proposition.
