TVS Overtakes Honda In Scooter Sales For The First Time In July 2026

TVS posts 40 per cent growth in July as Honda’s scooter volumes fall 12 per cent pushing TVS to the top of the segment’s sales chart in July 2026

TVS Motor Company has overtaken Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India in monthly scooter sales for the first time in July 2026 as it has ending Honda’s long-standing position at the top of the segment. The Hosur-based manufacturer recorded 2,56,675 scooter sales during the month compared to Honda’s 2,33,337 units which led to a notable lead.

The change comes after a steep divergence in the two manufacturers’ volumes. TVS registered a 40 per cent year-on-year increase from 1,83,607 units in July 2025 – adding 73,068 scooters. Honda, meanwhile, declined from 2,65,587 units to 2,33,337 units – a fall of 32,250 units or 12 per cent. The good reception of TVS’ electric scooter range is the primary reason.

The iQube is currently the best-selling e-scooter in the country and its volumes certainly help in TVS attaining top status as the leading manufacturer in the segment. TVS consequently raised its share of the scooter market from 28.46 per cent in July last year to 32.15 per cent in July 2026. Honda’s share moved in the opposite direction – falling from 41.17 per cent to 29.23 per cent over the same period.

The Japanese brand has the Activa as its top-seller but its electric range has not really grabbed attention as the brand would have hoped. Suzuki Motorcycle India held third place after recording 1,20,998 units – up from 94,296 units a year earlier. The increase of 26,702 units resulted in a 28 per cent growth while its market share edged up from 14.61 per cent to 15.15 per cent.

Hero MotoCorp also recorded a notable increase – selling 61,347 scooters compared to 45,989 units in July 2025 courtesy of the Vida range. Its volumes rose 33 per cent while its share increased from 7.12 per cent to 7.68 per cent. Bajaj Auto registered the highest percentage increase among the established manufacturers due to the expansive Chetak portfolio.

Its scooter volumes rose from 12,134 units to 48,684 units with a massive 301 per cent jump and its share consequently climbed from 1.88 per cent to 6.09 per cent. India Yamaha Motor posted 36,783 units during the month – up 53 per cent from 24,110 units in July 2025. Yamaha’s share rose from 3.73 per cent to 4.60 per cent.

The electric scooter manufacturers also recorded substantial gains. Ather Energy sold 31,044 units as it more than double its July 2025 tally of 15,096 units resulting in 106 per cent growth. Its market share increased from 2.34 per cent to 3.88 per cent. River Mobility recorded 6,039 units against 1,853 units a year earlier with a 226 per cent growth thanks to Indie.

Piaggio Vehicles posted 3,283 units – up 40 per cent from 2,350 units in July 2025. As a whole, the scooter sales stood at 7,98,190 units in July 2026 – up 24 per cent from 6,45,022 units during the same month last year. TVS accounted for nearly one-third of the total market during the month while Honda slipped below the 30 per cent.
