Tata To Acquire Iveco In EUR 3.8 Billion Deal, Will Improve The Brand’s Stock Prices

Tata Motors has announced an agreement to acquire Iveco Group in an all-cash deal worth approximately EUR 3.8 billion. Before finalising the deal, Tata Motors must separate Iveco’s defence business, excluding it from the acquisition. Tata Motors, through a new Dutch entity fully owned by the company, is making the offer.

Negotiations

Iveco’s Board has unanimously supported the offer and recommended shareholder approval at the upcoming extraordinary general meeting. Exor N.V., Iveco’s largest shareholder, has committed to tender its 27.06% stake in support of the acquisition. Tata Motors sets the offer price at EUR 14.1 per share, excluding dividends from the defence business sale.

The deal establishes a global commercial vehicle leader with annual revenues of EUR 22 billion and sales of 540,000 units. The combined business will span Europe, India, and the Americas with complementary portfolios and little market overlap. The companies aim to enhance sustainable mobility and operational scale across regions.

The offer includes two-year non-financial commitments on governance, employee protections, and business continuity. Iveco’s headquarters will remain in Turin, and no job cuts or factory closures are planned. Tata Motors will preserve the existing organisational structure and investments to ensure smooth integration and long-term competitiveness.

Regulatory approvals and completion of the defence business separation by March 31, 2026, are necessary for the transaction. If the sale does not occur, the business will be spun off into a new listed company. Tata Motors expects to close the offer in the first half of 2026, following all approvals.

After the acquisition, Tata plans to delist Iveco from Euronext Milan and make it a wholly owned subsidiary. Tata Motors will strengthen capital allocation, reduce volatility, and enable broader innovation in the commercial vehicle sector. Advisors include Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Clifford Chance, and PwC, among others.

Outlook

Tata Motors and Iveco mark a major milestone with this acquisition, combining their strengths to create a future-ready, global automotive powerhouse. The deal underscores both companies’ commitment to sustainable transport, strategic expansion, and industrial excellence.

Top EV Car Brands July 2025 – Tata, Mahindra, MG, Hyundai, BYD

GaadiWaadi -

Mahindra XEV 9e Electric

Tata Motors finished on top of electric car sales in July 2025 ahead of MG, Mahindra, Hyundai and others

In the month of July 2025, the electric passenger vehicle segment’s total volume grew to 15,295 units. The market witnessed an overall year-on-year expansion of around 91 per cent while momentum from June carried forward into a modest 10 cent sequential increase. Tata Motors managed to retain its pole position recording 5,972 EVs through the month – enough to give it nearly 40 per cent share of the space.

However, JSW MG remained a close second with 5,013 units accounting for 33 per cent of the market. For context, cumulative volumes for Tata in the ongoing financial year have now crossed 20,000 units while JSW MG’s share of April–July FY26 sales stands at 30.5 per cent. Mahindra & Mahindra continued to post gains too albeit in smaller absolute numbers.

With 2,789 units registered, the brand registered an astonishing 435 per cent increase over the same period last year courtesy of the arrival of the new born electric range. A 13 per cent dip from June’s numbers, however, brought some correction into the monthly trend-line. Still, Mahindra’s year-to-date performance translates to a 21.6 per cent contribution to the total EV market in FY26 so far.

Hyundai’s tally of 602 units reflected a steady climb over the previous month – an 11 per cent uptick to be precise. Though modest in scale, the Korean manufacturer has been quietly consistent with its numbers this fiscal. As for BYD, the Chinese brand recorded a minor month-on-month drop of ten per cent to finish at 453 units but still posted a 27 per cent jump compared to July last year.

BMW followed with 225 cars sold – flat against June but nearly three times its performance from the same month in 2024. Mercedes-Benz registered 85 units dipping slightly month-on-month but its year-on-year improvement remains strong. Citroën, on the other hand, faced a steep double-digit decline from June and a sharp seventy-four per cent fall compared to last year, with just 41 EVs retailed.

Overall, April to July 2025 cumulative volumes have reached 55,816 units. While Tata and JSW MG remain locked in a two-way contest for dominance, Mahindra’s aggressive push with the XUV400 and the introduction of the XEV 9e and BE6 could potentially disrupt the upper end of the table in the quarters to come.

Top 10 Electric 2W Brands In July 2025 – TVS, Bajaj, Ather, Ola, Vida, River

GaadiWaadi -

tvs iqube-2

In July 2025, TVS led the electric two-wheeler sales in India ahead of Bajaj Auto, Ola Electric and Ather Energy

Sales data for July 2025 points to a market still leaning heavily on a handful of manufacturers with TVS Motor Company retaining its position at the top courtesy of the iQube series. The company recorded 22,242 units sold last month according to Vahan data – keeping a narrow lead ahead of Bajaj Auto which ended July with 19,669 electric two-wheelers dispatched.

The margins separating the front runners may not be vast but the rankings below suggest a struggle for traction among other players. Ola Electric found itself in third place with 17,850 units ahead of Ather Energy which closed the month at 16,241 units. The former has commenced deliveries of its Roadster e-motorcycle range across India.

Meanwhile, Ather has been buoyed by the good reception for its Rizta. Hero MotoCorp’s Vida, which once appeared set to challenge the top three ended the month with 10,495 registrations. The recent arrival of the more affordable VX2 series could help attract more volumes during this festive season. Further down the chart, Greaves Electric was the only other brand to breach the 4,000 unit sales mark.

Rank Top 10 Electric 2W Brands Sales In July 2025

2 Bajaj Auto 19,669
3 Ola Electric 17,850

5 Hero Vida 10,495
6 Greaves Electric 4,197
7 Pur Energy 1,688
8 Bgauss Auto 1,595
9 River Mobility 1,518
10 Kinetic Green 1,225

It registered 4,197 units staying well ahead of the bottom four. Beyond that point, the market thins out quickly. Pur Energy saw 1,688 units in July just ahead of Bgauss Auto which managed a total of 1,595 units. River Mobility followed with 1,518 units thanks to its Indie scooter and brand expansion while Kinetic Green rounded off the top ten with 1,225 vehicles.

Yamaha is expected to step foot into the electric mobility space with a zero-emission scooter based on the Indie in the near future. Taken together, these numbers once again underline the sheer dominance of the top five who accounted for the lion’s share of total volumes in the electric two-wheeler segment.

The data also reflects the wide gap between established layers and smaller manufacturers still trying to consolidate visibility. While July did not witness any dramatic changes at the top, the narrowing differences in sales across the top four brands suggest a more compressed competitive field heading into the latter half of the year.
