Tata Motors is gearing up to revive the iconic Sierra brand in an all-new avatar in the second half of this year. The carmaker had showcased the new Tata Sierra as a concept in 2020 at Auto Expo, followed by a close-to-production version at the 2023 Auto Expo. While the electric version was featured in 2023, its ICE counterpart was unveiled in production form at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Show in January.

The big question is – will Tata launch the Sierra EV first or unveil the Sierra petrol? Let’s take look at the key details we know so far.
Tata Sierra EV:
Tata has consistently showcased the Sierra EV at all major Auto Expos. It was presented as a grand comeback, carrying a futuristic design language, a modern interior and a pure electric powertrain. The Sierra EV will be based on the brand’s Gen 2 EV architecture, which also underpins the Punch EV and Curvv EV. Powertrain details are still under the wraps. However, the Sierra EV is likely to come with multiple battery options, offering an expected range of around 500km.
Tata Sierra Petrol:
A petrol variant of the SUV is also in the pipeline. It’s expected to be offered with a 1.5L turbocharged petrol engine. Unlike its electric iteration which will be built on the Gen 2 EV platform, the petrol-powered Sierra will be designed on the Atlas platform.
Sierra EV or Petrol First – What to Expect?
While the carmaker has previewed both versions, the concept unveilings and brand positioning efforts so far hint at the arrival of the Sierra EV. Tata has already revealed its ambitious EV product strategy, aiming to achieve 50 percent EV sales by 2030. This makes a strong case for the Sierra EV to launch first. The Sierra petrol will soon be followed by its electric version. Additionally, the SUV lineup will also be available with the diesel engine option.
