The next-gen Hyundai Creta, a three-row premium SUV and the Palisade are expected to arrive in India with hybrid powertrain options

Hyundai is said to be preparing a trio of hybrid SUVs that will roll out over the next few years as part of its wider electrification roadmap which comprises multiple hybrid vehicles. The lineup will likely include a brand new three-row model positioned above the Alcazar, the next-generation Creta and possibly the long-anticipated Palisade.

The upcoming Creta, internally known as SX3, will mark a major departure from the current generation when it arrives around 2027. The SUV is expected to sit on a completely new platform with revised proportions, a more sculpted design language and a new interior design. Hyundai has reportedly started groundwork for the model even as it prepares to introduce the next-generation Venue next week.

Powertrain options are likely to include the familiar 1.5-litre petrol, turbo petrol and diesel engines while a hybrid variant is said to be in the works. Interestingly, a facelifted version of the Creta EV could follow once the ICE iteration makes its debut sometime in 2027. On the premium side of the range, Hyundai appears to be studying the feasibility of bringing the Palisade Hybrid to India.

Internationally, the SUV features a 2.5-litre turbo petrol engine working in tandem with an electric motor that together generate 334 hp and 460 Nm of torque. Despite its hefty size, the setup delivers efficiency figures exceeding 14 kmpl. Should Hyundai give the green light, the Palisade Hybrid could reach Indian showrooms by 2028.

A third and equally intriguing project under development is a new three-row SUV currently known by the codename Ni1i. To sit between the Alcazar and Tucson, the C-segment SUV is expected to utilise a modified version of Hyundai’s 1.5-litre petrol engine adapted for hybrid use. While Hyundai has yet to make any official announcement, speculations indicate that the Ni1i could enter production by 2027.

The combination of familiar nameplates like the Creta with newer models such as the Ni1i and potentially the Palisade, Hyundai will look to appeal to a wide spectrum of buyers in the coming years with hybridisation while a range of all-electric vehicles are also in the pipeline.
