BMW’s flagship sedans, the 7 Series and i7, get powertrain updates, a new cabin interface, 8K rear-seat screen and more advanced driver assistance in their upcoming avatars
BMW will launch the updated 7 Series and i7 in India on September 11, 2026. The facelift comes with revisions to the flagship sedan’s powertrain range, cabin, exterior design and driver assistance systems while the electric i7 gets larger batteries and higher outputs in its international specification. The India launch follows the global debut of the facelifted range back in April 2026.
BMW is yet to confirm which of the updated versions will be offered here but the current Indian range consists of the 740i M Sport and 740d M Sport while the i7 is sold in eDrive50 and M70 xDrive forms. The petrol and diesel versions have received revised outputs internationally. The 740i xDrive continues to rely on a 3.0-litre inline-six mild-hybrid petrol engine, now making 400 hp and 580 Nm.
The 740d xDrive gets a diesel version of the same 3.0-litre displacement developing 313 hp and 670 Nm. Both models retain an eight-speed automatic gearbox and an all-wheel drive system. The electric range receives a more substantial revision. BMW has replaced the i7 eDrive50 with the i7 xDrive50 – adding all-wheel drive and fitting a 112.4 kWh battery in place of the previous 101.7 kWh unit.

The revised model kicks out 455 hp and 660 Nm. The range-topping i7 M70 xDrive also receives the 112.4 kWh battery. Its output rises to 680 hp from 650 hp while torque increases to as much as 1,100 Nm from 1,015 Nm. BMW has not yet confirmed whether this version will be part of the domestic lineup or not. The larger battery and sixth-gen eDrive technology are claimed to deliver more than 720 km of WLTP range on applicable electric versions.
BMW has also revised the energy management system which incorporates intelligent route planning, adaptive recuperation and charging integration to optimise energy costs. The exterior changes are relatively subtle but give the 7 Series a revised face. An illuminated kidney grille sits between crystal-style headlamps while the rear gets newly designed lighting elements. Buyers can specify M Sport or M Sport Pro packages alongside BMW Individual options such as dual-finish paintwork. Wheel sizes range from 20 to 22 inches.

The cabin receives a more substantial technology update. BMW’s Panoramic iDrive system operates through Operating System X and is joined by a dedicated passenger display. Rear passengers can also get the Theatre Screen which supports 8K streaming. Other available equipment includes a Bowers & Wilkins sound system with Dolby Atmos, four-zone climate control, a panoramic glass roof, ambient lighting, and Executive Lounge seats.
The 7 Series also retains its focus on chassis refinement as well as the adaptive two-axle air suspension is standard while Integral Active Steering and advanced chassis control systems are available as options. The driver assistance package incorporates BMW’s Symbiotic Drive technology. Based on specification and market, the system supports partially automated driving, advanced parking functions, hands-free highway assistance at speeds of up to 130 kmph and navigation-assisted driving in city conditions.
