Hyundai Creta held on to the top spot as Seltos doubles its sales while recently launched models such as Victoris, Sierra and Tekton have reshaped the midsize SUV rankings

The midsize SUV segment registered another positive month due to its ever present popularity as several established models posted annual growth in July 2026 while a set of new launches added further competition in the ICE and electric categories. Hyundai Creta led the rankings followed by Mahindra Scorpio and Kia Seltos while Maruti Suzuki’s Victoris impressed again.

Hyundai Creta registered 18,088 units in July – up 7 per cent from 16,898 units during the same month last year. The SUV accounted for 13.8 per cent of the segment giving it the highest share among the models listed. The Mahindra Scorpio secured second place at 16,009 units – recording 16.5 per cent year-on-year growth over its July 2025 tally of 13,747 units.

Its 12.2 per cent segment share placed it just behind the Creta. The biggest annual increase among the leading established models came from Kia Seltos. Thanks to the recently launched new generation, its volumes reached 12,541 units compared to 6,010 units a year earlier with a massive 108.7 per cent increase. The Seltos held 9.5 per cent of the segment.

The Maruti Suzuki Victoris finished in the fourth position by recording 11,334 units. The Arena-sold SUV secured an 8.6 per cent segment share putting it ahead of several established rivals. The Mahindra XUV 7XO occupied fifth place at 8,233 units and its sales increased 16.7 per cent year-on-year from 7,054 units – giving the SUV a 6.3 per cent share.

The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara followed closely at 8,127 units. Its sales increased 27.5 per cent compared to 6,373 units in July 2025 while its segment share stood at 6.2 per cent. The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder recorded 7,187 units – down 18.5 per cent from 8,814 units a year earlier. The Tata Sierra range comprising both ICE and electric variants finished eighth.

It recorded 6,327 units in July. The MG Windsor EV followed at 4,659 units – up 8.1 per cent year-on-year from 4,308 units. Mahindra’s XEV 9S was next at 4,131 units securing a 3.1 per cent segment share. The Tata Harrier registered 3,301 units – growing 49 per cent over July 2025. Meanwhile, the Mahindra XEV 9e and Tata Curvv recorded 1,793 and 1,697 units respectively.

The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara and recently introduced Nissan Tekton posted 1,675 and 1,670 units while the Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq were outside the top 15 after recording 1,225 and 833 units respectively. The Mahindra BE 6, Renault Duster and Toyota Urban Cruiser eBella also featured lower down the overall segment ranking.
