Honda XR300 Rally and XR300L are locally made dual-sport twins that offer trail and touring choices; derives power from a 293.5 cc engine shared with the CB300F
Honda has announced the launch of the XR300L and XR300 Rally in the domestic market at Rs. 1.83 lakh and Rs. 2.08 lakh (ex-showroom) respectively. The two motorcycles are locally manufactured and sold through Honda BigWing dealerships and bookings are open. The Rs. 25,000 price difference separates the more trail-oriented XR300L from the Rally which adds equipment for longer rides and mixed-terrain travel.
The two motorcycles share a 293.5 cc single-cylinder air- and oil-cooled engine related to the unit from the CB300F. The motor is hooked with a six-speed gearbox. The India-spec motorcycles also get revised exhaust routing compared with the South American XR300L.
The XR300L comes with a traditional dual-sport design through its slim bodywork, high front mudguard, raised exhaust and narrow tail section. The suspension setup gets a long travel telescopic fork and a gas-charged Pro-Link rear monoshock. The 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wire-spoke wheels suit off-road riding and braking duties are performed by discs at both ends as switchable dual-channel ABS joins Honda’s torque control.

The XR300L has also been listed with a fuel tank capacity of 7.8 litres, 830 mm seat height and 244 mm ground clearance. It boasts 260 mm suspension travel, a 256 mm front disc, 220 mm rear disc and an LCD instrument console. The simpler equipment package keeps the L version closer to the conventional dual-sport formula.
The XR300 Rally adds a larger front fairing, tall windscreen, knuckle guards and a 13 litre fuel tank. The cockpit gets a five-inch TFT console as Honda RoadSync adds smartphone connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation. The Rally also features traction control and switchable ABS and it keeps the same 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoke-wheel configuration.

The XR300L enters the same lightweight off-road space as motorcycles such as the Hero Xpulse 210 and Kawasaki KLX230. The Rally takes the same platform in a more touring-based setup through its larger tank, added wind protection and connected display. The Japanese brand has indeed priced these motorcycles in a competitive manner and it will be interesting to see how the market responds!
