New Gen Mitsubishi Pajero Breaks Cover With Big Changes Inside & Out

GaadiWaadi -

new gen 2027 mitsubishi pajero

The Mitsubishi Pajero nameplate has returned after a brief hiatus as a larger ladder-frame off-roader that shares its underpinnings and diesel engine with the Triton

The Mitsubishi Pajero has returned for a fifth generation after the nameplate disappeared from the global markets in 2021. The new SUV goes back to its off-road roots as it boasts a ladder-frame chassis derived from the Triton pickup along with three rows of seats, a brand new cabin and a 2.4-litre turbocharged diesel engine.

The Pajero name has a long history in Mitsubishi’s SUV lineup. The first generation arrived in 1981 and established the model as an out-and-out off-roader while later generations built a reputation through international rally competition and a vital presence in markets such as Japan, Australia and parts of Asia. However, the third and fourth generations moved away from the traditional layout to monocoque construction.

The fourth-gen remained on sale for 15 years before production ended in 2021. The change comes as Mitsubishi needs a large off-road SUV above the Outlander while the Pajero Sport has served as its Triton-based alternative in several markets. The new Pajero effectively brings those two strands together. It retains the Pajero name and styling cues from older models but its mechanical bits are based on the latest Triton.

The ladder frame supports a solid rear axle, four-wheel coil springs and disc brakes while the model gets its own suspension calibration and cabin rather than simply becoming an SUV version of the pickup. The exterior takes a boxy and upright shape that recalls the classic Pajeros. The tall panels sits on a long wheelbase while short overhangs, a near-vertical windscreen and a flat roof give it traditional off-roader proportions.

The front gets an upright grille, stacked LED daytime running lights, round auxiliary lamps and a squared lower bumper. At the rear, PAJERO lettering stretches across the light bar while vertical tail-light graphics, side steps, black lower cladding and twin exhaust-like bumper inserts enable a rugged appeal. The cabin gets a more modern treatment than the exterior might suggest.

The top-spec variants offer two 14.3-inch screens, leather upholstery, a panoramic sunroof and triple zone automatic climate control. The dashboard combines tan and black trim while physical controls remain below the main touchscreen. An off-road display shows altitude, roll angle and pitch angle, and a rotary terrain selector sits beside the gear lever.

Power comes from a new version of the Triton’s 2.4-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine. The Pajero gets a single turbocharger rather than the Triton’s twin-turbo setup while output stands at 201 hp and 480 Nm. An updated eight-speed automatic sends power to all four wheels and the four-wheel-drive system supports regular tarmac as well as off-road driving.

Mitsubishi also has hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions under consideration but a larger engine such as a V6 is not planned. The new Pajero is expected to come in GLX, GLS, Exceed, and GSR grades placing it against the Ford Everest and Toyota Prado. India, however, appears highly unlikely to get the new SUV despite Mitsubishi and Nissan being partners in the global Renault–Nissan–Mitsubishi Alliance where Nissan holds a 34 per cent controlling stake in Mitsubishi Motors.

New gen Audi Q3 Bookings Officially Open In India Ahead Of Launch

GaadiWaadi -

New Gen Audi Q3

Audi opens bookings for its redesigned Q3 ahead of the October India launch as the compact luxury SUV gets major exterior and cabin changes

Audi India has opened bookings for the new generation Q3 ahead of its launch in October 2026. Customers can reserve the compact luxury SUV for an initial amount of Rs. 1 lakh through the Audi India’s official website, the myAudi Connect application or authorised Audi dealerships. The new Q3 gets substantial changes to its exterior and cabin while the India-spec model retains the 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine.

The cabin receives one of the biggest revisions as Audi repositions the gear selector from the centre console to the steering column. The change frees additional storage space between the front seats while a separate stalk handles the lighting and wiper functions. The dashboard gains Audi’s latest design language and boasts a new digital interface while acoustic glass for the front windows should help reduce outside noise.

The second row also gains greater flexibility through sliding adjustment and variable backrest angles. Luggage capacity stands at 488 litres in the standard configuration and increases to 1,386 litres once the rear seats are folded. The sliding second row lets occupants prioritise passenger or luggage space according to requirements while adjustable backrests add further flexibility.

Based on the variant, the new Q3 can also tow up to 2,100 kg. The exterior design takes a significant step away from the outgoing Q3. A larger Singleframe grille sits between slimmer headlamps while more pronounced contours feature across the bonnet and shoulder sections. The rear gets a full-width lighting element while digital OLED tail lamps and illuminated Audi rings will be available on top-end versions.

The Matrix LED headlamps feature micro LED modules while each daytime running light incorporates 23 individual segments. The India-spec new-gen Audi Q3 stays put with the 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine which develops around 204 hp and 320 Nm. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and Quattro all-wheel drive continue.

New Gen Audi Q3 Interior

Audi has expanded the Q3 powertrain range internationally, however, where the new generation gets petrol and diesel engines alongside a plug-in hybrid for the first time. The company has revised the suspension range as well offering standard, sport or two-valve damper configurations based on the market and variant. Assistance technology also receives an upgrade on the new Q3.

An interior camera can monitor the driver for fatigue and distraction while adaptive cruise control and lane-assistance systems gain additional functions. The parking system can store complex parking manoeuvres and repeat them later. Commenting on the start of bookings, Balbir Singh Dhillon, Brand Director, Audi India, said,

New-Gen-Audi-Q3-2.jpg

“Today marks an exciting milestone as we open bookings for the all -new Audi Q3. The all -new Audi Q3 brings together everything today’s Audi customer is looking for — a striking and progressive design, sophisticated technology, dynamic performance and everyday versatility. It is unmistakably Audi, yet more expressive, more intuitive and more connected to the way our customers live today. We have seen strong interest in the all -new Q3, and the opening of bookings is an important moment for us as we continue to strengthen our SUV portfolio.”

Honda Confirms New Sub-4-Metre SUV For India By 2028

2028 Honda Compact SUV

Honda Cars India is preparing to make a comeback in the sub-4-metre SUV segment, with the company confirming plans to launch a new compact SUV in India by 2028. The upcoming model is expected to compete in one of the country’s most competitive passenger vehicle categories, taking on the likes of the Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue and Mahindra XUV 3XO.

The new SUV will form part of Honda’s broader product expansion strategy for India. The company is targeting the introduction of 10 new models in the country by 2030, including its first mass-market electric vehicle based on the 0 Alpha concept.

India-specific platform under consideration

Unlike some of Honda’s existing products, the upcoming compact SUV is expected to be developed specifically with Indian requirements in mind.

Honda Motor Co. president and CEO Toshiro Mibe has indicated that the new model will focus on the requirements of Indian customers and local market conditions, rather than simply being an adaptation of an existing global product.

Reports suggest the SUV could use Honda’s upcoming PF2 modular platform, an architecture expected to support a range of small and midsize vehicles. The platform could potentially underpin other future Honda products in India, although the company has not disclosed the final architecture or specifications of the SUV.

The same platform has been linked to future-generation Honda models, including the City and a larger three-row SUV, although these applications remain subject to Honda’s future product plans.

1.2-litre petrol engine expected

The new compact SUV is expected to feature a locally sourced 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. While Honda has not yet confirmed the complete powertrain lineup, reports suggest that the engine could be offered with both manual and CVT automatic transmission options.

Honda is also evaluating electrified powertrains for the model. A hybrid version is reportedly under consideration, potentially allowing the SUV to address increasingly stringent fuel-efficiency and emissions requirements.

There has also been speculation around an electric derivative, although Honda’s immediate EV plans are focused on the 0 Alpha-based model that is expected to arrive before the new compact SUV.

Details such as power output, battery capacity, fuel efficiency and transmission specifications have not yet been disclosed.

Successor to the WR-V

The upcoming SUV effectively marks Honda’s return to India’s sub-4-metre SUV space following the discontinuation of the WR-V.

The segment has become an important volume contributor for manufacturers, attracting buyers with the combination of SUV styling, compact dimensions and relatively accessible pricing. Honda’s absence from this category has left the Elevate as its primary offering in the SUV space, but its larger dimensions place it in a different segment.

The new model will therefore give Honda a product positioned closer to the heart of the compact SUV market.

Competition expected to intensify

Honda will enter an increasingly crowded segment by the time its new SUV arrives. The Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue and Mahindra XUV 3XO are currently among the established players, while several manufacturers are expected to update or expand their offerings before 2028.

Volkswagen and Renault are also expected to introduce new products or updated models in this space, potentially increasing competition further.

For Honda, the challenge will be to combine competitive pricing with the features, efficiency and practicality expected by Indian compact SUV buyers. An India-focused platform and locally sourced powertrain could help the company control costs, but the final positioning will depend on the specifications and pricing announced closer to launch.

Honda has confirmed the 2028 timeline but detailed information about the SUV’s design, dimensions, powertrain, features and pricing is expected to emerge closer to its market introduction.

Locally-Made Affordable Hyundai Compact EV For India – Key Details

GaadiWaadi -

upcoming-hyundai-compact-ev-rendered-india.jpg

Hyundai’s upcoming compact EV will launch by Q4 FY27 with two battery options and more than 500 km of range on a single charge

Hyundai is developing a new compact EV for India that will sit below the Creta Electric and is expected to become the brand’s most affordable electric SUV in the country. Multiple test vehicles have already appeared on Indian roads and it has been confirmed to arrive in the final quarter of 2027 sitting right in the middle of the mass-market electric SUV segment.

The forthcoming Hyundai EV is expected to share substantial technology with the recently unveiled Kia Syros EV. It is available with 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh battery packs delivering ARAI-certified ranges of 443 km and 526 km respectively. Hyundai could use a similar strategy of dual battery options and the larger pack could give its compact e-SUV a certified range of more than 500 km.

Hyundai is also taking a different approach to the exterior design. As opposed to converting an existing ICE SUV, the company has developed a distinct styling for the electric model. The prototype has a tall stance comparable to the Venue while several styling details appear influenced by Hyundai’s global EVs. Sleek and segmented LED daytime running lights sit high on the front fascia with the main headlamp units positioned lower in the bumper.

The test vehicles have also revealed flush-fitting door handles, black roof rails and aerodynamic alloy wheels measuring around 16 inches. At the rear, the SUV gets a roof-mounted spoiler and vertically positioned reflectors. Heavy camouflage still conceals several design elements but the proportions and visible details indicate that Hyundai intends to give the compact EV its own styling approach.

The cabin is expected to receive a large touchscreen display which could sit alongside a fully digital instrument cluster. It will also feature connected car tech and Level 2 ADAS. The larger battery version could also support DC fast charging while battery thermal management, drive modes, regenerative braking and connected charging functions are expected too.

New Hyundai Electric SUV (3)

Hyundai could also offer a long list of comfort and safety features. The equipment may comprise wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, over-the-air software updates, wireless smartphone charging, ventilated front seats and a panoramic sunroof. A 360-degree camera, six airbags and assistive technologies are likely.

The compact electric SUV will enter a growing field of affordable EVs once it reaches the market. Its expected rivals will include the Tata Nexon EV, Tata Punch EV, Mahindra XUV 3XO EV and Kia Syros EV.
