Maruti Suzuki Targets Nearly 10 Lakh Green Vehicle Sales This FY

CNG volumes have surged in FY27 as Maruti Suzuki raises its earlier full-year target on the back of new launches including the recent CNG AMT trio

Maruti Suzuki has raised its FY 2026-27 green vehicle sales target to nearly 10 lakh units after a notable increase in CNG volumes during the current financial year. The company had earlier projected sales of 8 lakh to 9 lakh units across its CNG, hybrid and electric portfolio. CNG currently accounts for around 43 per cent of Maruti Suzuki’s sales as it places the fuel at the centre of its revised FY27 projection.

The scale of that CNG business has increased substantially this year. Maruti Suzuki sold around 2.2 lakh CNG vehicles during the first quarter of FY27 – up 58 per cent YoY. July then produced its highest-ever monthly S-CNG sales at around 83,000 units. Monthly volumes now sit close to 80,000 units and Maruti Suzuki holds 70 per cent of the passenger CNG market.

The Indo-Japanese manufacturer sees scope for CNG to increase its share of company sales from the current 43 per cent towards 50 per cent which is subject to sufficient vehicle supply. That would put almost one in every two Maruti Suzuki vehicles sold on CNG. The company already offers one of the largest factory-fitted CNG ranges in the country encompassing several of its high volume hatchbacks, sedans, SUVs and MPVs.

The latest addition to that range has been CNG AMT for the Swift, Dzire and Baleno. All three now get a 5-speed AMT alongside their factory-fitted CNG systems under Maruti Suzuki’s Auto Green Mission. Senior Executive Officer for Marketing and Sales Partho Banerjee said some customers had previously moved towards petrol automatics because CNG models did not offer a two-pedal transmission. Thus, a major gap has been addressed.

The Swift S-CNG AMT prices start at Rs. 7.92 lakh, Baleno at Rs. 8.32 lakh and Dzire at Rs. 8.53 lakh (ex-showroom). Certified CNG efficiency stands at 35.34 km per kg for the Swift, 34.47 km per kg for the Baleno and 36.47 km per kg for the Dzire which makes it the most fuel efficient sedan in the entire country.

Fuel prices are another factor in Maruti Suzuki’s outlook for alternative powertrains. Banerjee referred to crude oil prices near USD 100 per barrel when discussing the revised sales target. Higher petrol running costs can consolidate the case for CNG, hybrid and electric vehicles especially for customers with high annual mileage. Maruti Suzuki’s 43 per cent CNG share already sits well above the PV market average and brands like Hyundai, Kia and Tata are looking to bring in more models in this space.

Maruti Suzuki’s has brought in AMT convenience to three of its popular CNG cars as the Swift, Dzire and Baleno have seen their ranges expand

Maruti Suzuki has brought in the automatic CNG versions of the Swift, Dzire and Baleno and they will further help the brand in establishing its leading position in the CNG space. All three get the 1.2-litre Z12E engine with a 5-speed AMT along with the existing factory-fitted S-CNG system. Prices start at Rs. 7.92 lakh (ex-showroom) for the Swift and the Dzire posts the highest certified efficiency at 36.47 km/kg.

1. First Automatic S-CNG Trio

The Swift, Dzire and Baleno now get Maruti Suzuki’s 5-speed AMT gearbox with their S-CNG powertrain. The AMT has an automated clutch and gear-shift mechanism and drivers can also select gears manually through the transmission when required.

2. Dzire Delivers 36.47 Km/Kg

Fuel efficiency differs across the three cars despite their common powertrain. The Dzire leads with a certified 36.47 km/kg followed by the Swift at 35.34 km/kg and the Baleno at 34.47 km/kg. Maruti Suzuki says the Dzire S-CNG AMT is India’s most fuel-efficient sedan based on JATO Dynamics certification.

3. 1.2-Litre Z12E Engine With Two Outputs

All three cars get the 1,197 cc Z12E petrol engine with Dual Variable Valve Timing and Idle Start Stop technology. In petrol mode, the engine kicks out 82.93 PS at 5,700 rpm and 112.4 Nm at 4,500 rpm. The CNG mode lowers output to 69.75 PS at 5,700 rpm and 101.8 Nm at 2,900 rpm. The fuel system includes a 37-litre petrol tank and a 55-litre CNG cylinder measured by water-filling capacity.

4. Factory S-CNG Safety Hardware

Maruti Suzuki’s S-CNG setup gets stainless-steel pipes and joints designed to resist corrosion and leakage. Integrated wiring reduces the risk of electrical short circuits and a microswitch prevents the engine from starting during CNG re-fuelling. The system also gets Intelligent Injection for air-fuel management and Idle Start Stop for reduced fuel consumption in traffic.

5. CNG Sales Are Rising Fast

Maruti Suzuki reported a 58 per cent YoY increase in CNG sales during the first quarter of the current financial year. The month of July 2026 also produced the company’s highest ever monthly CNG volume at 83,000 units. The new automatic versions give the Swift, Dzire and Baleno another drivetrain choice at a time when CNG already accounts for a significant part of Maruti Suzuki’s passenger car volumes.

New Black Diamond treatment gives TVS’ flagship Apache duo a darker look for the festive season

Last week, TVS Motor Company introduced the Black Diamond Editions of the Apache RR 310 and Apache RTR 310 in India along with a raft of updates for the Apache range. The special editions are based on the top-spec quickshifter-equipped variants and receive an exclusive all-black livery. The RTR 310 Black Diamond Edition is priced at Rs. 2.48 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) and the fully faired RR 310 costs Rs. 2.87 lakh.

The RR 310 also gains Keyless Ride with this festive update – a feature already offered on the RTR 310. Both motorcycles carry several electronic rider aids and some of them are cruise control, cornering ABS, cornering traction control, launch control and drag torque control. The Apache 310 range also offers Dynamic Stability Control on relevant configurations along with multiple ride modes and a 5-inch TFT instrument cluster.

The RR 310 uses a 312.2 cc liquid-cooled, reverse-inclined single-cylinder DOHC engine. In Sport and Track modes, the motor develops 38 PS at 9,800 rpm and 29 Nm at 7,900 rpm. Output drops to 30 PS and 26.5 Nm in Urban and Rain modes. The engine works with a 6-speed gearbox and slipper clutch. TVS quotes a top speed of 164 kmph, 0 to 60 kmph in 2.82 seconds and 0 to 100 kmph in 6.74 seconds.

The RTR 310 gets a closely related 312.12 cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine with electronic throttle control. It produces 35.6 PS at 9,700 rpm and 28.7 Nm at 6,650 rpm in Sport, Track and SuperMoto modes. Urban and Rain modes reduce output to 27.1 PS and 27.3 Nm. TVS claims a 150 kmph top speed, 2.81 seconds between 0 and 60 kmph and 0 to 100 kmph in 7.19 seconds.

The RR 310 uses a trellis split frame, inverted cartridge front forks and an aluminium swingarm with a gas-assisted rear monoshock. It rides on 17-inch wheels with 110/70 front and 150/60 rear tyres with 300 mm and 240 mm disc brakes. Ground clearance measures 180 mm, seat height stands at 810 mm and kerb weight is 174 kg with a fuel tank capacity of 11 litres.

The RTR 310 uses a hybrid trellis and cast-frame structure with 43 mm USD front forks and a preload-adjustable rear monoshock. Its 17-inch wheels carry 110/70 front and 150/60 rear tyres – backed by 300 mm and 240 mm discs with a dual-channel ABS system. Seat height is lower at 800 mm, ground clearance is 180 mm and kerb weight stands at 169 kg.

Tata Safari EV To Get Triple-Screen Dashboard & 65 & 75 kWh Battery Pack

Tata Safari.ev will directly compete with Mahindra’s hot-selling XEV 9S and the recently launched MG Hector Tomahawk EV

The Tata Safari.ev is expected to be launched this festive season, and with just about a month left until the official reveal, new details have started emerging. Recently, a prototype was spotted equipped with a completely new cockpit setup.

The Tata Safari.ev will have a redesigned dashboard to accommodate up to three displays. It will likely feature a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system as standard. In the higher trims, it will likely also feature a 12.3-inch passenger touchscreen that can be used to stream videos, play games, control music, and access various other functions.

Other new features of the Tata Safari.ev will likely be vehicle-to-vehicle (V2L) and vehicle-to-load (V2L) bidirectional charging functions, available until the battery pack’s charging level is above 30%, and 19-inch alloy wheels in a more aerodynamic design. Other features such as ventilated first- and second-row seats, winged headrests for the second-row seats, digital IRVM with dash-cam, and second-row roll-up sun blinds will likely be borrowed from the ICE donor.

Tata Motors will likely launch the Safari.ev in single-motor RWD and dual-motor AWD variants. Both should have a permanent magnet synchronous motor producing 175 kW (235 hp) and 315 Nm of torque on the rear axle. The dual-motor AWD variant should add a front-mounted induction motor that develops 116 kW (156 hp) and 164 Nm of torque. It may also have a boost function that can raise the torque of the rear motor to 340 Nm, bringing the total torque to 504 Nm.

The Safari.ev will likely have a top speed of 160 km/h in the single-motor RWD variant and 180 km/h in the dual-motor AWD variant. A 0 to 100 km/h sprint in the latter should take around 6.5 seconds. The dual-motor AWD variant should also offer Snow/Grass, Mud-Ruts, Sand, and Rock Crawl terrain modes, along with higher ground clearance.

As for the battery pack, Tata Motors should give a choice of 65 kWh and 75 kWh LFP units in the single-motor RWD variant and use the latter as standard in the dual-motor AWD variant. The 75 kWh LFP battery pack should deliver a range of around 600 kilometres in the single-motor RWD variant.

5 New Compact EVs To Be Launched In The Next Two Years

Five new compact electric cars, all likely to be SUV models, are expected to arrive in Indian showrooms by 2028

The choice of electric cars in India has grown considerably over the last two years, but mostly in premium segments. However, five new compact EVs are expected to be launched in the next two years, which would significantly expand the options for customers with smaller budgets.

Sometime in November or December this year, Hyundai will launch its long-rumoured entry-level electric SUV codenamed ‘HE1i’. The company is developing this model primarily for India and has designed it according to the needs and preferences of local consumers.

Spy shots have revealed that this model will have a squarish exterior aimed at delivering maximum space in a compact footprint. Along with the traditional shape, a high ground clearance, large windows, and raised roof rails will give the HE1i an authentic SUV look.

The interior would be unlike any other Hyundai on sale today, featuring a minimalist dashboard with a pair of sleek displays: a 9.9-inch panel for the instrument cluster and a 12.9-inch touch-operated unit for the infotainment system. Hyundai will likely give a choice of two LFP battery pack options, the larger of which should deliver a range of around 500 kilometres. The company has confirmed it will offer Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems in this model.

In mid-2027, Tata Motors is expected to launch the next-gen Nexon. In line with the company’s recent product strategy, the next-gen Nexon.ev should follow soon. The all-new Nexon.ev should have a completely new design, better build quality, and a myriad of new features, including several improved and additional advanced driver assistance systems.

2027 Tata Nexon

There’s no word on the technical specifications, but it’s safe to assume that the battery packs offered will again consist of LFP cells, but this time the maximum range could be over 525 kilometres. Renault has confirmed plans to offer the Bridger, which it plans to launch in the second half of 2027, in an electric variant.

The company could introduce the electric variant sometime in the first half of 2028. VinFast is also expected to launch an electric compact SUV in 2028, codenamed ‘VF X’. VinFast has started the development of this model and is targeting a base price of around Rs. 11.5 lakh (ex-showroom).

Maruti Suzuki, the country’s largest carmaker by volume, is developing a new electric car priced below Rs. 10 lakh (ex-showroom) in the base trim, according to a recent report from Fortune India. This EV is likely to be much smaller than the other EVs stated in the story, though, possibly an A-segment model, as people aware of the development have indicated that the range could be similar to the Tata Tiago.ev, which can travel 285 kilometres on a single charge. Maruti Suzuki could launch this model sometime in 2028.

Maruti Model Wise Sales August 2026 – Wagon R, Swift, Fronx, Dzire, Baleno, Victoris

Sub-4 metre models drive the majority of the growth at Maruti Suzuki in August 2026, with the cut-price Wagon R in the lead

Maruti Suzuki delivered 1.77 lakh cars in India in August 2026, recording a 35% year-on-year growth. The company saw a strong demand across segments last month, particularly for its entry-level cars such as the Alto K10, Celerio, Wagon R, and Swift.

The Wagon R was Maruti Suzuki’s best-selling model in August 2026, with 20,180 units delivered. Compared to August 2025, sales were up 39%. The Swift was close behind and ranked second, contributing 19,832 units to the total volume and registering a 60% year-on-year growth.

The Fronx was Maruti Suzuki’s third-highest-selling car in August 2026, contributing 18,730 units to the total volume. The Baleno-derived crossover saw a 51% year-on-year growth in sales last month. The Ertiga and Dzire were close behind, with 18,516 units and 18,418 units sold, respectively. The MPV’s sales remained nearly the same as in August 2025, while the sub-4 metre sedan saw a 12% year-on-year growth.

The Baleno, which was in its runout phase ahead of the facelifted version’s arrival this month, recorded 15,746 units in sales and a 25% year-on-year growth in August 2026. The Brezza was next on the sales chart, with 15,288 units delivered, 12% more than in the same month last year. The Victoris, which is celebrating its first anniversary this month, contributed 12,978 units to Maruti Suzuki’s sales last month.

The Eeco ranked ninth on Maruti Suzuki’s August 2026 sales chart, with 11,961 units sold, 11% more than in the same month last year. The Alto K10 was in tenth position, contributing 8,692 units. The entry-level hatchback’s sales increased by 57% from August 2025. Next on the sales chart was the Grand Vitara, with 7,808 units delivered, 36% more than in the same month last year.

The XL6 was among Maruti Suzuki’s lowest-selling models in August 2026, recording 3,293 units in sales and an 11% year-on-year growth. The Celerio’s sales almost doubled from August 2025, but stood at only 2,990 units. The e Vitara launched in February 2026 registered 1,586 units in sales, while the Jimny, Invicto, and S-Presso logged triple-digit sales figures of 586, 260, and 107 units, respectively. The Jimny saw a year-on-year decline of 3%, while the S-Presso saw the highest year-on-year decline across the lineup – 92%. The Invicto’s sales were 10% higher compared to August 2025.

7 New Cars Coming To India During The Festive Season

From new SUVs and electric cars to CNG MPVs and facelifted sedans, these upcoming launches will add plenty of variety to the Indian car market

The next couple of months are set to be busy for the Indian car market, with several manufacturers preparing important launches and updates. Some are completely new products, while others bring new powertrains or major feature upgrades to existing models. Here are eight cars worth keeping an eye on.

1. Hyundai Bayon

Hyundai is preparing to introduce the Bayon in India around the festive season. The SUV will sit between the Venue and Creta, and recent teasers have already revealed its sharp LED lighting, geometric alloy wheels and distinctive rear design. The India-spec model is expected to get a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, with a CNG option also reportedly in the works.

2. Tata Safari EV

The Safari EV will become Tata’s first three-row electric SUV and is also expected to arrive around the 2026 festive season. It will share the Acti.EV+ architecture and battery options with the Harrier EV, including 65 kWh and 75 kWh packs, while an AWD version is also expected. The Safari EV is likely to retain the basic design and spacious three-row cabin of the existing SUV, with EV-specific exterior changes and additional technology.

3. New Toyota Glanza

Toyota will unveil the Glanza facelift on October 14, 2026, with the updated hatchback expected to follow the changes introduced on the latest Maruti Suzuki Baleno. The biggest mechanical change could be the new 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, while revised styling and additional features are also expected.

4. Mahindra Thar Facelift

The three-door Thar facelift is scheduled to launch on September 22. Mahindra has already released teasers showing changes to the front-end design, while the updated model is expected to receive some interior and equipment upgrades as well. The familiar three-door body-on-frame platform and off-road-focused character will continue.

5. Honda Elevate Facelift

Honda will introduce the first facelift for the Elevate in early October. The update is expected to bring revised lighting, bumpers and alloy wheels, along with changes inside the cabin. Honda has also indicated that features such as ventilated front seats and a 360-degree camera could be offered directly from the factory. The existing 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, manual and CVT options are expected to continue.

6. Skoda Slavia Facelift

The Slavia facelift has already been unveiled, with deliveries scheduled around the festive season. The sedan gets refreshed lighting and alloy wheels along with a new 360-degree camera, rear-seat massage function and updated digital displays. The 1.0-litre TSI now gets a segment-first eight-speed torque-converter automatic, while the 1.5-litre TSI continues with the seven-speed DSG.

7. Renault Triber Turbo

Renault is expected to introduce a turbo-petrol version of the Triber by the end of September. The MPV will use the Kiger’s 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, expected to produce around 100hp. A factory-fitted CNG version using dual-cylinder technology is also expected. The additional power should address one of the Triber’s longstanding limitations, particularly when carrying a full load of passengers.
