The third-generation Hyundai Creta is expected to get a more upright design, a larger cabin, a new platform and a strong-hybrid powertrain when it arrives in India

The Hyundai Creta has been one of the biggest success stories in the Indian car market. However, competition in the mid-size SUV segment is at an all time high. Tata Sierra, Renault Duster, Nissan Tekton and the new Kia Seltos are among the products expected to make life more difficult for Hyundai. The company is therefore preparing a much bigger update for the next-generation Creta.

The new SUV is expected to be a proper generational change rather than another facelift. Spy images suggest that Hyundai is moving away from the rounded design of the current model and adopting a more upright and boxy silhouette. The new Creta might also be slightly bigger than the outgoing model. We saw the same happening with the new Seltos.

The front-end could feature a new light bar and a wider grille. The test mules spotted so far remain heavily camouflaged, but the overall design appears to take inspiration from Hyundai’s latest global SUVs. The rear is also expected to receive a major makeover, with new LED tail lamps and a more upright tailgate.

The biggest changes could be inside the cabin. Reports suggest a new dashboard design, updated upholstery and redesigned door trims. Hyundai is also expected to introduce larger digital screens, more advanced connected-car features and an upgraded version of its Pleos Connect system. A particularly interesting feature could be a front passenger seat with a zero-gravity or ottoman function, similar to what is offered on the Ioniq 5.

The new Creta is also expected to move to Hyundai’s newer K3 platform, which is shared with the new Kia Seltos. This should help improve cabin space, safety and overall driving dynamics. Hyundai is also expected to continue offering the existing 1.5-litre petrol, turbo-petrol and diesel engines, although the biggest addition could be a strong-hybrid powertrain. The hybrid system is expected to be based on the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine.

The third-generation Creta is expected to launch in India early next year. Hyundai has dominated the mid-size SUV segment for years. The new Creta will only help the company push sales in this highly competitive segment.
